Dr. Jon Laugharne
Dr. Jon Laugharne is a Psychiatrist, based in Perth, Western Australia. Jon grew up in the UK, training as a medical doctor in London before completing psychiatric training in Sheffield.
He has worked in the mental health field for more than twenty years in a variety of academic and clinical settings in the UK, the USA and Australia.
He is currently in full-time private practice and is appointed Clinical Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of Western Australia.
Dr. Laugharne is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK) and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He has published many papers in medical and scientific journals across a range of subjects relating to mental health including post-traumatic stress.
Dr. Laugharne has a range of clinical and research interests and in recent years has become particularly interested in the impact of trauma on mental health. He ran a Post-traumatic Stress Research Clinic at Fremantle Hospital from 2009 to 2014 in collaboration with Claire Kullack RMN and has treated patients suffering as a result of a wide range of traumatic experiences with established and innovative psychological treatments through this clinic and his private practice. He is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR), Trauma Focused CBT, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Schema Therapy. He also has expertise in the management of psychotropic medications used as adjunct treatments to therapy. The success he has experienced has also led to him using innovative approaches with a wider range of patients and non-clinical clients which has resulted in the development of Mind Body Reprogramming (MBR) as a self-help approach based on EFT and cognitive strategies.
Dr. Laugharne is passionate that people who have suffered the psychological effects of trauma receive appropriate assessment, diagnosis and treatment, in line with internationally accepted best practice.
